Quinetum & WhiskQuin

HENDRICK’S is always looking for new ways to be innovative and a little unusual. Quinetum has been created for the world’s best bartenders to experiment with in the creation of marvellous cocktails. Crafted in-house in Girvan, Quinetum is the new cordial created by Master Distiller Lesley Gracie – a delightful mixture of quinine and several natural extracts and distillates from a combination of fine botanicals: lavender, orange, orange blossom, wormwood and holy thistle. Created with a base of glycerol and a small amount of sugar syrup and citric acid, the product is 4% ABV. Lesley Gracie and the HENDRICK’S team were inspired by the work of Thomas Whiffen, a pioneering mathematician and chemist. Thomas Whiffen developed the use of quinine and its related products at a chemical factory where he worked in the nineteenth century.
Since I was among the lucky Greeks who were able to taste Quinetum upon its arrival in Athens, I tried it in a few cocktails and I must say that I was really surprised. Finally I came up with the WhisQuin cocktail. Read the recipe below:

WhisQuin

  • 40 ml Hendrick’s Gin
  • 15 ml Woodford Reserve Distiller’s Select bourbon whiskey
  • 20 ml Quinetum
  • 15 ml fresh lemon juice
  • 40 ml organic 100% pressed pineaple juice

Combine all ingredients in a mixing glass. Fill the shaker with plenty of ice and shake until chilled. Double strain into a chilled cocktail glass. Garnish with a lemon peel or a mint sprig.
