There are three main things that motivated me to create the voodoo bourbon cocktail. The trigger was this fabulous small doll. It came straight from New Orleans and it was a gift from my very good friend, Panos who was there in order to follow the Tales Of The Cocktail. The second thing that inspired me to make up this drink, was the fact that I really love the blackcurrant puree from Ravi Fruit. It’s so amazingly live and it keeps all the rich fruity character of black currants, that I really feel great to use this in my bar. Furthermore fresh black currants are not so easy to find in the greek market. The third reason why I created this concoction is the fact that I like challenging myself experimenting with bourbon, which in my opinion is an amazingly interesting spirit. So here is what you have to do in order to drink the voodoo bourbon cocktail.

  • 45 ml Maker’s Mark Bourbon whiskey
  • 45 ml Blackcurrant puree (Ravi Fruit)
  • 20 ml honey syrup (1 part honey: 1 part water)

Shake all ingredients with ice and strain into an old fashioned glass with an ice ball. (Ice ball plays an important role in this bourbon cocktail, since the drink needs little  dilution). Garnish with a maraschino cherry or a bourbon infused cherry. Calm down. Take a breath. Enjoy your drink. Eat the cherry. If it is a real maraschino you shouldn’t miss the opportunity to smash it inside your mouth. If it is bourbon infused cherry you should eat this too. After all you don’t want to waste your money, do you?
