I tried fentimans botanical tonic water, during my G’Vine experience. It was almost three years ago. Today, fentimans are officialy imported to Greece through Sky Spirits and I was very happy to receive some of the first samples. (pictures by Vangelis Patsialos)
In 1905, Thomas Fentiman, an iron puddler from Cleckheaton, England, became the owner of a unique recipe for botanically brewed (a simple process involving herbs and plant roots) ginger beer. Fentiman’s ginger beer quickly became very popular and the family business grew, with several production factories being opened in the North East of England. Today, Fentimans is a world wide known firm and it has been voted ‘Best Drinks Brand’ in the 2012-13 Best Brands survey of Fine Food Digest readers across the UK.
Apparently, this was the right time for Fentimans products to arrive in Greece. As soon as the first bottles landed in Athens, I was given some samples to try them. I was so amazed with the Ginger Beer and the Rose Lemonade that I decided to create two signature cocktails. I tried to keep it simple so I just added some “funky” booze into these lovely soft drinks. Wanna try them? Check the recipes below:
- 60 ml Cranberry Infused Vodka*
- 120 ml Fentimans Rose Lemonade
Fill a Collins glass with cubed ice and add the ingredients. Garnish with three cranberries.
Cranbbery infused vodka* complements a variety of cocktails. This is a definetely revitalizing infusion. Steeping cranberries in vodka is a smart way to add sourness. Cranberries will also give an impressive bright red colour to your vodka (see picture below). I knew I wanted to create this infusion since I tried the beautifully refreshing taste and aroma of Rose Lemonade. You are going to need 1 cup of cranberries for 1 lt of vodka. Wash cranberries. Place them in bottom of infusion jar. Muddle them gently. Add vodka and seal the jar. Let infuse for 3-5 days. Taste and shake once a day. Strain the vodka into a clean bottle.
- 60 ml Mango Infused Rum*
- 15 ml of fresh lime juice
- 2 dashes angostura bitters
- 100 ml Fentimans Ginger Beer
Fill a Collins glass with cubed ice and add the ingredients. Stir gently and garnish with a wedge of lime.
*For the Mango infused rum, you will need to place 1/2 cup of dried slices of mango in bottom of an infusion jar. Add rum and seal the jar. Let infuse for 2-4 days. Taste and gently shake regularly. Strain the rum into a clean bottle.
