Calories and Alcohol

EN | GR

The alcohol content of drinks is measured in units. One unit is 10 ml or 8 gr of pure alcohol. This equals 25 ml of whisky (ABV 40%), 160 ml of beer (ABV 5-6%) or 90 ml of red wine (ABV 12%). According to drinkaware.co.uk, the government advises that people should not regularly drink more than the lower risk guidelines of 3-4 units of alcohol for men and 2-3 units of alcohol for women. ‘Regularly’ means drinking every day or most days of the week. Furthermore, it is easy to make the mistake of thinking that drinks are calorie-free. M
any people are very surprised by the number of calories in alcoholic drinks.
If you drink regularly, your body starts to build up a tolerance to alcohol. Then the amount of alcohol you need to get the same “kick effect” gradually goes up. This is one of the main reasons why it’s important to consider taking regular breaks from drinking. Once in a while – or between your drinks – test out having an unconventional alcohol free beverage like Fentimans Rose Lemonade, which is a botanically brewed soft drink and tastes really cool.
